New content pack to help Office 365 user adoption

Office365-adoption-content-pack-powerbi

The Office 365 Adoption content pack using PowerBI is now in preview for first release tenants. I’ve just switched mine on so it will be interesting to see how it looks. Of course there is only one user in my tenant so the data is not that useful for me as such. But for any organisation using Office 365 they will now be able to see (in an easier way) what parts of Office 365 their users are using.

Currently it runs on a monthly cycle so it is refreshed every month. But that is fine to be able to show data and analytics about user adoption.     »» Continue reading

Need more focus on the SharePoint User Experience

Despite all the (moslty welcome) changes in SharePoint in the past 12 months or so, my experience shows that users still struggle with the SharePoint interface and how to use it fully. So I enjoyed Marc Anderson’s recent presentation in Holland about improving the SharePoint user experience.

At last a staff rota scheduler in Office 365

Now, there is lots of great stuff coming from the Microsoft Ignite conference but this one caught my eye. It’s called Microsoft StaffHub. It’s basically an online rota and staff scheduler for what MS calls ‘deskless’ workers.

Microsoft StaffHub—the go-to app for deskless workers to manage their life at work. With Microsoft StaffHub, it’s easy to create and manage shift schedules for your team and provide relevant information needed for the job. For deskless workers, their work schedule, and other important information, is right at their fingertips—on their mobile device.

So users can get all the information on their mobile device (Android and iOS only – sorry Windows Mobile).     »» Continue reading

Digital Workplace predictions for 2016

Now, they are not my predictions. Not a chance. We will leave that to the real expert in that area and that is the always interesting Paul Miller of the Digital Workplace Group (DWG). The video is only 8 minutes or so but well worth your time. Paul also talks about ‘Employee Experience’ and how that is and will be having an impact on how people work internally and with customers. You can read some more about Employee Experience here.

And that’s Slack

SlackJust read two interesting articles on Slack, the fast growing digital workplace enterprise tool. First up is a LinkedIn post from James Robertson of Step Two, the intranet consultants in Oz. His team use it and are delighted with it. He gives a nice summary of what it does and what it covers. And then we have Gerry McGovern’s article which focuses on the company’s customer experience efforts. That sets a standard for many companies and organisations to follow and we’d love to see more of it. Of course I am a Microsofty and use many of their tools but even MS can learn from a company like Slack.     »» Continue reading

New in Office 365 and getting work done

As anyone who follows the Microsoft world and in particular, Office 365, SharePoint and Yammer, change and new things are pretty much a constant. Keeping up to speed with it all is almost a challenge in itself. SharePoint 2016 has been released as a beta so there is quite a bit of attention on that but because it is more of an upgrade compared to the huge changes between 2010 and 2013. A different animal altogether with a focus on hybrid on-premises and working with the cloud.

Yammer is ticking along with changes to the User Interface (UI) being the most visible change but there is lots of tinkering going on all the time.     »» Continue reading

How to work smarter with Office 365, SharePoint & Yammer

Andrew-gilleranOffice365

Migrating or moving to Office 365 or upgrading to SharePoint 2013? Great, but what about the end users?

  • How will Office 365/SharePoint fit into how they work?
  • How will you introduce it?
  • How will you communicate the benefits?
  • How will you get the most out of it?
  • How will your users keep up with the massive changes coming up in the next 12-18 months?

Problems with technology like Office 365 and SharePoint always, always come from a mix of poor training, poor communication, poor usability and a lack of understanding of how users work. People are shoehorned in using it based on the how the platform was designed and built.     »» Continue reading
