How to get the URL link to a Delve profile

Delve-Office365-Andrew-Gilleran

I was ages searching for a solution to this. I wanted to have a link on an intranet to a user’s own Delve profile in SharePoint Online. Delve is Microsofts ‘personal search and discovery tool.

Relatively simple you would think. I’d seen JavaScript options which were way too tricky for me. So a big hat tip Gregory Zelfond, the SharePoint Maven for this link.

This is the URL you can use.

https://[yourcompanyname]-my.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/me.aspx?v=profile

[Update]

https://yourcompanyname-my.sharepoint.com/person.aspx is another option. Thanks to Coxy on Twitter for that.

By the way here is a useful admin guide to Delve. Well worth reading.

How to get quick help with Microsoft Teams

Let’s face it, Microsoft Teams is a great collaboration tool. And it is still only in preview or beta. Onboarding, user adoption and user training is of course a key element in introducing any tool. But Microsoft have certainly stepped up to the plate with Teams. If you go the Chat tab on the left hand menu and look for T-Bot, the automated chat robot. In there you have several options.

  1. Ask a question to the T-Bot and the answers are quick and usually correct.
  2. Choose the Help tab which has a comprehensive list of quick guides
  3. Choose the FAQs
  4. Or choose the videos.

Intranets can be expensive to build and manage. But they are very, very useful and can have major value for an organisation. But you and your users need good content. And they need guidance. Intranets are usually managed by Internal Communications so they know the importance of good content and clear, effective communications.

Here are five great articles which help explain (somewhat) as to where we are currently and how these collaboration tools can (or can’t be used). It my give you more questions than answers but it will help. Bear in mind Microsoft Teams is in preview or beta and not in a final state. And these tools, as is the way in Office 365, are constantly being updated.

How to use Microsoft Delve in Outlook

Delve is the output from the brain in Office 365. It shows everything that you are working on and who you are working with. It’s artificial intelligence on a massive yet personal scale.

Microsoft definition:
Delve helps you discover the information that’s likely to be most interesting to you right now – across Office 365. Find information about people – and through people – and help others find you.

You can read about Delve here.

Measuring SharePoint collaboration and user adoption

I liked this quote from the survey report, Monitoring and Measuring Collaboration Success just released. Again the importance of user adoption is so vital to success (and measurement).

New Office 365 user adoption guide from Microsoft

Microsoft have released a new guide to User Adoption for Office 365 (PDF). It’s 33 pages and is very detailed. And it’s pretty damn useful. This is a valuable guide for anyone involved in planning and supporting Office 365.

The guide oulines three main phases for user adoption: Envision, Onboard and Drive Value and are based around Microsoft’s existing FastTrack programme.

New Intranet Authors Masterclass launched

LinkedIn-intranet-authors-masterclass

People have been chosen to update their team/department’s section on the intranet. They have received training and guides on how to update their section using their chosen technical platform such as SharePoint. They have been shown how to update content but necessarily WHAT to create. Then your intranet gets stale. People complain. They stop using it. Content is out of date. Badly written. Confusing. But people are busy in their jobs and struggle to produce decent intranet content. So without decent and regularly updated content your intranet will not be used as much as you would like.

3 hours on your premises for up to 10 people.
